Battling the Elements (and a few rogue felt pieces!) in Plymstock: A Quantum Roofing Adventure
Hey everyone!
Warren here, from Quantum Roofing. You know that feeling when you look at a job, and it just speaks to you? Well, that's exactly how Luis (my son and trusty sidekick) and I felt when we rolled up to a lovely property in Plymstock just before Christmas.
The recent gales and general "moodiness" of the pre-festive weather had really taken their toll. This beautiful home, like many, was showing some real signs of wear and tear, especially around the edges. We’re talking about a roof that needed a little bit of good old-fashioned TLC to future-proof it properly – not just for a few months, but for years to come.
Our mission, should we choose to accept it (and we always do!): give this roof the robust hug it deserved. We quickly got the excellent team from Plym Group in to sort us out with scaffolding – because safety first, always! And let’s be honest, those guys make even scaffolding look elegant.
First things first, out with the old! We carefully removed the old, damaged verge, and then stripped away the worn-out felt and battens. You know, sometimes you find little "surprises" under there, but nothing too wild on this occasion – just good honest wear.
The great news? The original Barnstaple tiles were still in fantastic shape! It's always a joy to see quality materials stand the test of time. So, with the roof cleared and prepped, we installed brand-spanking new felt and battens. Think of it as giving the roof a fresh, clean canvas for its next chapter.
Then came the satisfying part: reinstating those beautiful Barnstaple tiles. Like putting a puzzle back together, but with more climbing and less likelihood of losing a piece under the sofa.
The real game-changer for this roof, however, came from our pals at Roofbase. Specifically, a big shout-out to Darren Woodcock for hooking us up with the brilliant Danelaw verge units. These aren't just any old verges; they're modern, durable UPVC units that look incredibly neat and do a stellar job. Fitting these new verges brings the roof bang up to date and provides that crucial, long-lasting protection against the infamous Plymouth weather. It truly future-proofs the entire roof for a good long while.
It was a rewarding job, working together as a father-and-son team, seeing that transformation happen. And a huge thank you to Affordable Waste for making light work of all the old materials – they made the clear-up a breeze!
So, if your roof is looking a bit sorry for itself after the winter, don't wait for the next storm! Give Quantum Roofing a shout. We're always ready for the next adventure.
Stay dry out there, Warren & Luis
